Dearest Dude,

Once at a baby shower your great aunt said these beautiful words, "Your baby will come here knowing nothing.  You have to teach them EVERYTHING, but in the end they will teach you more than you could possibly imagine."  No truer words have been said.  In the past four years you have taught me more about myself, than all the years leading up to having you.  Words cannot express how thankful I am that God chose your daddy and I to be your parents.  You bless us every single day.

Here's a few things about you at four years old.  You love people and people love you.  I hope this never changes.  There is not a day that goes by where someone doesn't say something about your red hair.  You can be loud and demanding, but also quiet and sincere.  You say the absolute funniest things and never stop talking.  You love lizards, bugs, worms, and spiders.  You love all boy things, but can also watch Sofia on the t.v. if you have to.  You are so rough with Annie sometimes, but sometimes I catch y'all hugging each other for no reason.  You love Halloween and all things "smooky."  Guess that's what I get for having an October baby:)  You aren't afraid of anything except sleeping in your own bed.  Wubby is still around!  You spend more time outside than you do inside.  You love big and have the sweetest heart that I want to protect forever.  I want to cry at the thought of someone hurting your feelings.  You have no problem growing up and achieving milestones, we may struggle with it, but you don't!  You are happy, and healthy, and whole, which is exactly what I prayed for every single day that I was pregnant with you.

One day, you will be grown.  One day you will hopefully read this blog with a family of your own.  You will almost understand how much your daddy and I love you.  You will struggle with parenting.  You will have triumphs with parenting.  You will wonder where did the time go?  So please my sweet child enjoy every minute of the life that God gave you.  Life is a gift.  Parenthood is a gift.  So treasure your gifts every single day and know that we are so very proud of you.

It is my hope that you seek Jesus in your time of need.  I hope that you know him as your personal Savior and have a relationship with him.  I hope you make good decisions and be the man, husband, and father that we raised you to be.  I hope you know that when you don't make the best decisions, your daddy and I will always be in your corner.  I hope that we, as a family unit, stay close and that you and Annie have a bond that will never be broken.  I hope that you cherish your wife and put her first, even when it's hard to do so.  I hope you pour everything you have into your children.  I hope you go after your dreams, but never lose sight of what's truly important in life.

These verses are written on the wall in your room and I hope you inscribe them into your heart- "Do not let anyone look down upon you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity."  1 Timothy 4:12

So, happy fourth birthday my dude.  I hope you have many, many more.
