Twas the Night Before Christmas in the Allen House

Christmas decorations are a little different this year in the Allen house.

First, let me give you a little insight to my feelings on Christmas...
I was quite the Scrooge when it came to decorating.  It just didn't seem important to me this year.  Decorating, spending money on decorating, and yelling at dude for messing with the ornaments sure didn't sound "Merry" to me!  It all just seemed so superficial and petty to be completely honest.  Why am I stressing & spending money on petty decor, when there are so many children that NEED so much?
But, I also realized that as a wife and mother it is my job to make our home a "castle" to my family.  I always want my children to live in a home that is loved & decorated for the holidays no matter their age.  It is nowhere near the most important thing about Christmas, but it is a part of the season!

Tis the Season to be Jolly, right?  So here it is. Our home all done up for the holidays!!

This is the view from my front door & dining room.  The small trees that I used throughout the house were only $15.00 at Hobby Lobby!  We (mom & I) used a lot of balls & decorations from last year..

The living room is simple, but festive!  We have our three stockings, another small tree on the coffee table, a fun deer on the t.v. and a homemade Merry Christmas wreath that reminds me it's Christmastime every time I walk into the living room!!!

That brings us to the kitchen. I have yet another small tree on the breakfast table &  Christmas cards from loved ones displayed around the door frame.

I LOVE getting Christmas cards in the mail.  I especially love it when people include a letter to catch you up on what's going on in their lives.  So this year, I decided to include a letter with mine!  We have family that is scattered throughout the US and we even sent one all the way to Germany.
Here is our card & letter

Don't go breaking out the magnifying glass.  I typed it on here for you!

Twas the night before Christmas in the Allen house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
But wait, I must back up just a bit
And tell you about 2011, before the holidays hit
First and foremost the best part of this year
Has been Hagan Jude Allen, who brings us much cheer
His hobbies include, but are not limited to
Toddling, laughing, and saying his new favorite word eeewwh
He is constantly smiling, such a happy little boy
He’s our gift from God and greatest joy
Rudy now works in Pennsylvania drilling for oil & gas
And I’m staying home with Hagan, watching him grow up so fast
In May of this year, we bought 9 acres of land
To build a home in the country is what we have planned
In September, we traveled to Michigan to see family
We miss them so much and think of them constantly
October marked a very big milestone
Hagan turned one, a birthday candle was blown
Also in October, I traveled to Mexico
To share the gospel with people whom I didn’t know
Rudy and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary in November
Over the years we’ve laughed, loved, and created much to remember
We feel so blessed that this year has been a great one
The best part of all is that God gave us his Son
He is the one true reason
For this wonderful time of year and season
So make sure to remember Him as the holidays draw near
We hope you have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

I have to give a huge shout out to Con (my mom) for helping me get over my funky scrooge mood & for making fun coffee in my special mug:)

Mom, you are my best friend.  Thanks for helping me decorate on a small budget & inspire me to be a better person. I love you!
Rudy, please get home soon.  I miss your bald head.
Dude, if I catch you walking around with an ornament in hand saying, "baaaawwwlll" one more time- I might just have to give you a Christmas spanking:)
