Michigan Adventures

In September, we boarded a plane and headed to Michigan.  We = Jimbo, Con, dude, and myself.  My mom's side of the family all live there, so we were thrilled for dude to finally meet grandparents, great aunts & uncles, cousins, and family friends!  We don't get to see them as much as we would like thanks to geography, but when we do it's a lot of fun:)
We left Friday afternoon and got to Michigan at 11:00 PM.  If you have small children don't do this.   You may think that flying at night is better, but let me assure you as a mom who has flown with a 5 month old and an 11 month old, it's best to leave early in the morning.  You have been warned.
Sorry I got sidetracked:)  Friday night we stayed at my Aunt Pam's house, whose yard has trees like this one.

She is so much fun and was so excited to meet dude!  Mornings at her house consisted of sleeping in, chatting, garage saling, swinging, and taking pictures in her yard!  I took full advantage of the fall foliage to photograph the scenery & little dude.
He also had fun in Ramsy's swing!

Uncle Dwight took us for a ride, where I encountered the biggest Weeping Willow ever!
And this picture looks like it belongs in a magazine for gosh sakes..

The next few days were spent at my Aunt Lori's house, who thank goodness also lives in the country and is a blast!  She fell in love with dude when she visited in February, so couldn't wait to get her hands on him again!  Days at her house consisted of mornings with the local wildlife, more photo sessions, painting projects, four-wheeling with Uncle Dave, and lounging around.  Dude slept in at her house (in his pack-n-play of course) until 10:30 one morning!  He has NEVER done that..  Guess our Michigan adventures wore him out..
Here are some pictures from her house!
I told dude the sassy look he gave me in this last picture was not necessary.
This brings us to Wednesday.  Wednesday we picked up my lovie from the airport.  Rudy flew straight to Michigan from work and was ready to meet the Michigan family for the first time.  On the way to the airport we stopped by Uncle John's Cider Mill.

Wednesday we stayed at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  Y'all, I love this house.  It's on Valley Street and I love everything about it.  I also love my spitfire grandma and precious grandpa!  Even though I only get to see them every couple of years, they hold a very special place in my heart.  I will always cherish these pictures..

Dude had his first encounter with a baby doll at Grandma's house.  He learned how to care for babies.  Allow me to give you a demo.
Here he learned how to check for a poopy diaper.
Then he learned how nursing works

And of course after feeding, comes burping.
A smack on the head for disciplining should do the trick.
And last, but not least every baby needs lovin.

Rudy is so going to kill me for this.
I also found this article to be interesting.
My great great grandmother Elsie had 101 great-grandchildren.  Wow Elsie.  Wow.  Wonder if she raised all her babies the way dude just learned how?
Anyway, the next day we packed up, yet again, and headed to the casino for a night.  They had free rooms and this bunch never turns down a free room.  Hopefully they didn't charge for toilet paper though.

We visited my cousin Carlee, who also lives in the country and is mother to Ramsy.
Isn't he a doll?  And don't you love her house?
Our last night in Michigan the family threw dude a birthday party!  It was so sweet and a good way to end a great trip.
Our plane left early Saturday morning & we were in Jackson at 2:30 PM.  Dude did WAY better on the way home and didn't fuss one single time.  Hallelujah!  Just in case you were wondering- dude stayed in 4 different houses/places in 1 week.  So very thankful for my go-with-the-flow child! I'm so glad dude got to meet the Michigan fam & vice versa...  To the MI blog readers, we love you all very much and miss "y'all.
